Why focus on Alternative Energy Sources Now?
On a global basis, economies of the world have decided that alternative energy, especially solar, is an economical replacement for conventional energy sources (coal, oil, gas, etc.) and will help companies to reduce their reliance on other countries for their energy. As we continue to consume a finite supply of fossil fuels, the alternative sources will help to move us into a more efficient consumption pattern, especially when carbon content is considered. As a result, countries like the US have implemented front-loaded financial incentives for the use of solar energy, to broadly encourage its use and development.
As the cost of manufacture of solar panels continues to go down, ultimately, solar will be competitive with other forms of energy, especially coal-fired energy, which will ultimately have to establish an expensive cleaning process and address it’s carbon footprint. When the solar technology reaches “grid parity” the incentives will not be necessary to encourage its broad acceptance.
